working with or responding to hazardous material spills, site cleanup or

Lead Risk
Assessor for Target Housing & Child Occupied Facilities

This 2-day course will
present the HUD devised methods for Lead Risk Assessment Screen and Full
Risk Assessment. These are methods of onsite investigations of a residential
dwelling to discover lead-based paint hazards. The course content includes
lead risk assessment protocol, collecting background information on the
property and occupants, visual inspection and assessment, sampling for lead
exposures (paint, wipe, soil and other), interpretation of sample results,
overview of O&M program, interim controls, hazard control options,
recordkeeping, risk assessment report, liability, insurance and public
relations issues.
The course includes 4 hours
of hands-on activities including sampling, interpretation of sampling
results and assessment activities.
This certification qualifies
a person to conduct lead hazard screens and risk assessments for the purpose
of recommending lead hazard control options. A risk assessor identifies
environmental sources of lead and also performs abatement clearance. |

This course incorporates the
EPA Model Course materials and June 1995 HUD Guidelines (with the 1997
Chapter 7 revision). It will cover background information on lead, sources
of environmental lead contamination, health effects and medical monitoring,
federal, state and local regulations, legal and insurance issues, reviewing
inspection and risk assessment reports, integration of lead work with
modernization and rehabilitation projects, pre-abatement planning, lead
hazard, recognition and protective clothing, employee information and
training, occupant protection plans, project management, contract specs.
supervision techniques, lead abatement options, interior dust reduction and
clean up, internal and external abatement, post abatement/ clean up, soil
abatement, lead sampling in soil, dust and sir, clearance testing and
criteria, waste disposal, community and employee relations, cost estimating,
record keeping.
This course is a combination
of lectures, demonstrations, video tapes, hand-on workshops and an exam. It
is intended for consultant, contractors, supervisors, engineers, architects,
regulators, building owners and managers. Exam required. OSHA required
training is not included in the EPA certification course. |

The lead worker course is a
2-day course designed to train individuals to perform lead-based paint
abatement activities. This course, with 8 hours of hand-on activities for
workers will cover and include background information on lead and sources of
contamination, exposure, regulatory/guidance review (OSHA, EPA, HUD, State &
Local), hazard recognition & controls including: health effects, exposure
measurements materials identification, safety & health rules, medical
surveillance, medical removal programs, and chelating issues, personal
protective measures including respirators, clothing & hygiene, work
practices including: area preparation, maintenance activities (weld,
cutting, etc.), indoor and outdoor abatement of paint, dust & soil;
mechanical, manual, and chemical methods; engineering and administrative
controls; clean-up and disposal recordkeeping and record access.
The course is a combination
of lectures, demonstrations, video tapes, hands-on workshops and the
required exam. OSHA required training is not included in the EPA
